Aspiring artists and photographers will be given more opportunities than ever before to take part in a weekend of art and music.
This promise has been made by the District Council, which is finalising plans for this year’s Art in the Park which will be in Brough Park, Leek on Saturday and Sunday, May 12th and 13th.
Visitors will be encouraged to join in and take part in a Weaving Words project or take photographs of the event and publish them online in Leek Photographic Society’s display at Brough Park Leisure Centre.
Leading local photographers, artists and studio potters will be exhibiting their work. Other attractions include music in the restored bandstand, demonstrations of wood turning using a pole lathe and displays of work by students from Leek College.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s leader Sybil Ralphs, who has responsibility for arts development, said: “Art in the Park has become a keenly-anticipated annual event that attracts thousands of visitors from across Staffordshire Moorlands and from much further afield.
“The celebration is great news for the local economy as it brings lots of people into town, and it’s great news for local artists as it gives them a high-profile platform for their work. I’ve no doubt that this year’s event will prove more successful than ever”, she predicted.
