Hannah receives her gift voucher from Councillor Ralphs
A talented seven year old from Rudyard won artists’ materials worth £50 in a competition staged by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
Hannah Grindey shone brightly in a contest inspired by a “Magic in the Nursery” exhibition held in Leek’s Nicholson Art Gallery during the summer holidays.
The event celebrated the colourful, groundbreaking children’s book illustrations of early Victorian artists Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway.
The exhibition was complemented by arts workshops for four to 11 year olds. Around 150 children took part in activities that included completion of a booklet challenging youngsters to write poems, draw pictures, complete word searches and solve crossword puzzles. Hannah did best of all. She completed her entire work book beautifully and on Thursday, November 17th, council leader Sybil Ralphs, who is responsible for arts development, presented her with a £50 gift voucher to spend on artists’ materials.
Cllr Ralphs said: “Hannah displayed great imagination and attention to detail in completing her booklet so very well. She’s clearly one to watch as I gather that she’s recently won a school poetry competition as well”.
