Retailers in Stone believe that Totally Locally a scheme which encourages people to use local shops could be worth more than £3m to the town’s economy.
Over 100 traders have joined the scheme which encourages shoppers to spend £5 a week in local stores instead of buying online or from out-of-town supermarkets.
The scheme’s supporters hope it will attract new businesses to the high street and create more jobs.
Local trader Dave Kidd, who runs an ironmongers, told the BBC that shopping habits had changed dramatically over the last 50 years.
He went on to say: ”I think people still appreciate a personal service, but I don’t think they know what they’ve got locally.
“It’s a matter of if you don’t use it, you lose it.”
Dave is right. Local shops and market stalls in North Staffordshire are having a hard time.
Some have already closed.
Those that remain need your help to survive. You can ensure their survival by shopping locally. You will lose them if you don’t.
