Community Right to Challenge gives communities the opportunity to bid to take over local authority services which they think they can run more efficiently.
It gives power to the people by allowing community groups and parish councils to express an interest in taking over the running of local services.
Specialist support will be available to existing groups that want to run services and help will be given to local people who want to create a new group to provide them.
Scores of businessmen and women attended the city’s first Enterprise and Business Growth Summit in the King’s Hall, Stoke on June 19th to discuss ways of developing an enterprising culture in The Potteries.
Organised by Stoke-on-Trent City Council and the North Staffordshire Chamber, the meeting was attended by more than 80 representatives of companies and organisations in the city who were told how changing attitudes, creating a ‘database of opportunity’ and working together would help businesses to succeed.
Councillor Mark Meredith, cabinet member for economic development, said: “This is an exciting time and it’s clear we still have a lot of work to do but we have an enterprising spirit and culture which needs to be refined and built upon.”

The Church of England is planning to demolish St. Saviour’s the historic tin church in The Rookery, a village near Kidsgrove.
Believed to be one of the oldest tin churches in the world, St. Saviour’s was erected by miners at Butt Lane in 1868 and moved to The Rookery in 1879.
Local people want to preserve this unique building and re-erect it on a site in Kidsgrove to create a Kidsgrove Heritage Centre.
If you would like to help Save St. Saviour’s and make it a heritage centre, please come to a meeting being held at Kidsgrove Town Hall on Tuesday, June 26th at 7.30 p.m.
