Can you help “Who Do You Think You Are?”

May 7th, 2012

Alton Towers has been approached by Wall to Wall Media, the company that makes ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ for the BBC.

The company is researching the Towers’ history from 1925 to 1938 when several of the grand state rooms were run as tea rooms by Mary Zillah Waddicor.

Although a few photographs of the tea rooms survive very little is known about them. If you can help Wall to Wall’s researches please contact Maxine Ostwald on 020 3301 8471 or email her at maxine.ostwald@walltowall.co.uk

Save Our Heritage – Archdeacon of London joins campaign against “heritage tax”

May 7th, 2012

The Archdeacon of London, the Venerable David Meara, has joined the crusade against the government’s proposals to increase VAT on alterations to listed buildings.

The Archdeacon is the Rector of St Bride’s in Fleet Steet (a Grade 1 listed building) which recently launched an appeal to raise £2.5m for essential repairs.

Archdeacon Meara described the proposed VAT rise as a “clumsy measure that will be a heritage tax on the custodians of historic buildings”.
