Yorkshire Forward and Welcome to Yorkshire have agreed to maintain Welcome to Yorkshire’s funding at £10 million for the next year, helping to ensure a lasting legacy from one of their major and most successful investments.
The decision is good news for Yorkshire’s tourist industry, which has already grown in value from £5.9bn to almost £7bn, since 2009 when a decision was made to invest £30 million in the industry. By the end of 2010 the investment had helped to create 4,000 new jobs.
Yorkshire Forward and Welcome to Yorkshire are confident that tourism will continue to expand and play a major role in Yorkshire’s economy.
The £10 million investment for 2011/12 means the continuation of support for the industry with high impact marketing campaigns and events designed to bring even more tourists into the region.
